Etymology: bef. 900; ME yelou, OE geolo, geolu, c. OOHG gelo yel′low•ness, n. usage: The racial designation represented by definition7ais usually perceived as insulting. Mongoloid is the preferred scientific term. However, many anthropologists reject the concept of races based on physical traits and prefer to classify human beings into ethnic groups. Definition7bis usually perceived as insulting, also because it refers to a physical trait.
